Sainsbury’s is recalling the crisps because they can cause “serious health risks” if eaten

Sainsbury’s has issued a recall for Taste the Difference hand-cooked crisps with sea salt and Suffolk cider vinegar due to an undeclared allergen. Chips may contain milk, which is not stated on the label, posing a risk to those with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

Symptoms of consumption could range from hives and upset stomach to vomiting and bloody stools. In rare cases, some people may experience anaphylaxis, a life-threatening reaction that can affect breathing and send the body into shock.

The affected chips have product code 6328534 and a best before date of 26 October 2024. Point of view warnings have been issued in Sainsbury’s stores to alert customers.

The supermarket chain advised anyone with an intolerance not to consume the product and return it to their local store for a full refund – no receipt required. The product is currently priced at £1.50, according to the supermarket’s website, the Mirror reports.

Recall notices are usually issued for a number of reasons, including safety issues if a product poses risks to the customer or quality issues if the product does not perform as expected.

The Food Standards Agency is responsible for issuing alerts on food related issues. When a problem occurs, the product may be “recalled” from sale, or “recalled” customers are asked to return the item.

Food must be recalled if contamination with pathogens that could lead to food poisoning is found, or if foreign objects such as plastic or metal are detected in the product due to manufacturing errors. Additionally, recalls are required if there is an omission or error in the listed allergen information.
