A new cafe serving Buddha bowls, waffles and ‘freakshakes’ is opening in Truro.

Cornwall’s only town has got a new cafe serving Buddha bowls, waffles and ‘freakshakes’. The Hideaway, tucked away on Kenwyn Street in Truro is a community cafe that opened its doors on April 23rd.

The space was previously known as Little Roo’s Play Café and offered a small sensory room for children under five, as well as a seating area where families could enjoy light lunches, snacks, tea and coffee. However, its owner Jo Long said the decision to rebrand came because Little Roo’s had not been busy enough to stay as it was.

While adding that it was a “tough decision to make”, Jo said the current economic climate meant it was time for a change. The Hideaway is now open Tuesday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm and offers a range of light snacks and sweets.

This includes sweet and savory waffles, tea, coffee, cakes and freakshakes. The menu is also for celiacs. Like Little Roo’s Play Café, The Hideaway also has a playroom for toddlers and will host a range of family-friendly activities – such as pottery painting and hang out sessions.

Dozens of dedicated customers took to Facebook comments to share their sadness at Little Roo’s closing and wish Jo and The Hideaway well for the future. One person wrote: “So sorry to hear this, we loved coming to your place but looking forward to The Hideaway!”

Another said: “Little Roo’s was a God send for shopping trips to Truro with the little ones! We love coming in for a Buddha bowl and coffee while the kids play! I hope they’ll still be on The Hideout menu!”

Another commented: “We loved coming to Little Roos and will definitely keep coming once you reopen as The Hideaway. I’m so sorry you had to make such a difficult business decision and I hope this new venture works out for you.
