Lovell begins construction on a mixed-use project in Burniston

Property development partner Lovell has started construction on its latest mixed-use development, Oakwood Gardens, in Burniston, England, UK.

This development underscores Lovell’s commitment to fostering inclusive communities and addressing the pressing need for diverse housing options.

Oakwood Gardens is one of many in the company’s growing portfolio. It contributes to the expansion of Lovell in the eastern region of the country.

The £15 million ($18.95 million) project, located on Limestone Road, is the result of Lovell’s strategic collaboration with Cushman & Wakefield, which facilitated the acquisition of the pastoral land.

The development will transform the former grazing land into a residential community with two, three and four bedroom properties.

Lovell’s regional managing director, Robert Adams, said: “Starting work on this Burniston site is a great achievement for us at Lovell. The site immediately ticked the box on the location to further contribute to our growing presence in Scarborough and the regeneration of the area. We look forward to welcoming our first owners in due course.”

The development will comprise 46 homes, comprising 32 units earmarked for free market and the remainder designated as affordable housing.

In a move towards sustainability, Oakwood Gardens is designed to be gas-free. Instead, the homes will be equipped with air source heat pumps.

Residents can thus anticipate a more ecological lifestyle, coupled with the financial benefit of reduced energy expenses.

Lovell is also set to inject more than £94,000 into local green spaces, which will see the development of a mitigation basin to manage stormwater runoff, wildlife-friendly initiatives such as hedgehog highways and community spaces designed to promote outdoor recreation and ecological diversity.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2026, with the first open houses expected to hit the market in early 2025.

Last year, Lovell Partnerships began construction on a residential development at the Oakwood Edge site in Midlothian, Scotland.
