Brent Maze: Happy Mother’s Day

I love my mother.

Most everyone says they have the best mom, but I think my mom is the best.

I am so grateful for every day we were able to spend together. It has been a true blessing to have her with me throughout my life. Many people only have a few days or years with their mother. Any time we get to share with our parents is precious, but to be able to share 43 years with her is just a blessing from God.

Sometimes I find myself like her in some ways. This is usually a good thing.

I really have two great parents who raised me and were there to help me along the way. I know others have not been blessed with this kind of support for one reason or another.

My mother’s love is something I’ve felt all along, even in the times I’ve messed up or done things I’m ashamed of. She never judged but always wants me to do the right thing.

She taught me that actions speak louder than words. I try not to make promises I can’t keep, and if I love and respect you, I try to show it more than I say it. I don’t want my word to become meaningless. When they’re wrong, you realize it and try to make it right.

Also, my mom will go above and beyond what you asked her to do. If you need help in the kitchen, she will do what you ask and more.

She also taught me to be patient. Sure, he wants things done when he has them in mind. Who do not? But in order to be a teacher for nearly 25 years in Birmingham City Schools, she had to have a lot of patience and compassion for her students.

She was also very patient two years ago when I was recovering from a serious car accident. We had many chances to talk and spend time together. I will cherish those times.

As you can tell, she had a big impact on my life, along with the impact she had on my brother and sister and their families.

Many of you still have your mothers with us. Some of you will remember your mothers today.

If you can, take the time to give your mom a big hug too. For those who are not as fortunate today, I hope their memories will comfort you.

To all the moms out there, Happy Mother’s Day! I hope it’s a special day for you.
