Lambeth council chief executive, 46, charged with drink driving and Class A drugs after ‘fleeing the scene of an accident’ in London



The chief executive of a £190,000 London Labor council has been charged with drink-driving and drugs offences.

Bayo Dosunmu, who works for Lambeth Council, was arrested by the Metropolitan Police on Sunday after allegedly fleeing the scene of a car crash in the capital.

The 46-year-old from Hammersmith was charged with failing to stop following a road traffic accident and driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Dosunmu, who was also charged with possession of Class A drugs and driving without insurance, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 1.

Bayo Dosunmu is the £190,000-a-year chief executive of Lambeth Council in south London.

He earns £187,775 a year according to a November 2022 Lambeth Council document and also receives an undisclosed additional payment for his role as a return officer.

Dosunmu was expected to fill the role during the upcoming general election, but an interim director will now have to be appointed before July 4.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police told MailOnline today: ‘Bayo Dosunmu, 46, from Hammersmith was arrested on Sunday 23 June in the Westminster area.

“He was charged on Monday, June 24, with possession of a Class A controlled drug; the driver of a vehicle does not stop after a road accident; in charge of the vehicle – blood alcohol level above the prohibited limit; operate a motor vehicle on a public road or place without third party insurance.

“He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, August 1.”

And a Lambeth Council spokesman said: “Lambeth Council Chief Executive Bayo Dosunmu is currently off work and the council has put in place interim management arrangements.

“We are unable to make any further comment due to an ongoing police investigation.”

Dosunmu became the council’s chief executive in July 2022, having previously served as deputy chief executive and strategic director for resident services.

He has also held roles at Homes England and the Homes and Communities Agency, as well as the Welsh Government and the Olympic Games Delivery Authority.
