One passenger told BirminghamLive: “We’ve been queuing for over an hour and we still haven’t got to the lifts. It’s literally a health and safety disaster because the animals won’t be treated that badly. We estimate that at 05:30 there are approximately 1,000 people. in the queue. Something akin to a third-world operation is underway.” BirminghamLive approached the airport for comment on the latest situation.

A temporary liquid check structure was installed to help ease the situation. The queuing problems are said to have been partly caused by the government’s last-minute changes to the 100ml liquid maximum carry-on rule.
