Demolition of latest Coventry pub as new plan emerges

A former pub in Coventry has been given the go-ahead to be bulldozed. The old Bear & Staff pub in Princethorpe Way, Binley is to be demolished.

In its place will be a new building boasting a convenience store and residential apartments. The proposal was rubber-stamped by the city council earlier this year.

But this was subject to certain conditions being met, one of which was that the firm behind the proposal submit detailed drainage plans. An application has now been submitted to the council outlining the Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) for the shop and flats.

The plans include a detailed design of the proposed drainage for the site. If approved, it means demolition of the pub and work on the future of the ground can begin.

Once completed, there will be a shop with seven one-bedroom residential apartments on the first floor. Each property will have an open-plan kitchen and living area, with a separate bathroom and bedroom.

Who will run the store has not yet been publicly revealed. The drainage plans can be viewed on the council’s website here by searching in the planning section of application number PL/2024/0000830/DCA.
