Kevewi from Cornwall guide! – Cornwall’s Rewind Radio

Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers and volunteers from across Cornwall enjoyed an all day party at Stithians Showground on Saturday 22nd June.

Over 1200 Girlguiding members experienced a truly memorable day celebrating all that Girlguiding stands for, Culture and Fun. There were 100 different activities on offer such as singing, yoga, archery, den building, archaeology, escape room, tug of war, climbing wall, Cornish language, a visit from Devon and Cornwall Police and much, much more ! The day ended with a surprise silent disco with members young and old dancing the night away!

The fun also extended to include the Isles of Scilly where the girls from St Marys, St Martins and Bryher had a fabulous day with an amazing wildlife boat trip to see puffins followed by activities and lunch on St Agnes.

Catherine from 10th Falmouth Guides said: “It was very inclusive as everyone had something to do. It was very fun!”

Chloe from 1St Falmouth Rangers said: “I’ve never been to a big county event before and I didn’t realize how many of us are in Girlguiding in Cornwall!”

Sarah Powlesland, Kevewi Event Coordinator said: “Wow, what an event! Seeing and hearing the noise was amazing. So many girls and leaders enjoying themselves, participating in activities, trying something new, celebrating mentorship, making new friends and catching up with old friends. Since covid, the social circle of life has changed. We now have a new normal and bringing everyone together on Saturday reminded the girls and leaders that the ethos of guiding has not changed and that we are just as relevant today as we were before covid. Guiding is a space for girls to have a voice, building on their skills and confidence, inspiring them to discover the best in themselves and empowering them to make a positive difference in their community.”

Cornwall County Commissioner Sue Harris said: “I am extremely grateful to our dedicated volunteers who, in addition to running their units week in week out, have managed to find extra time and incredible enthusiasm to create Kevewi, our county-wide Saturday fun day. We showcased the best of Girlguiding in Cornwall with over 1200 members having a great time. The buffet was tangible and seeing all the smiling faces reinforces why Girlguiding is an important part of a girl’s journey and relevant in the 2020s.”
