Sandwell and Birmingham Mela 2024 – tickets, banned items and key moments as first announced

The UK’s annual South Asian music festival will return with a major twist in 2024. The Sandwell & Birmingham Mela promises the same jamboree of delicious food, loud music and shopping, however, in a “historic first”, the festival will had female headliners.

Sunanda Sharma and Harshdeep Kaur will take the stage in hopes of showcasing the talent and influence of female artists in South Asian music. Other singers will include Guru Randhawa, Bilal Saeed, Jyotica Tangri and Sukshinder Shinda.



Now in its 12th year, the Mela will take place in Victoria Park, Smethwick, over the weekend of 13th and 14th July. Audiences are promised pop, folk and classical music from around the world.

Visitors can also enjoy performances by British urban performers from Asia, dance performances, visual arts and a variety of arts and crafts activities. The popular shopping bazaar will feature 70 shops offering a wide range of products, while more than 20 street food vendors will serve international cuisine.

Tickets are available from £3 per day and can be bought on the gate, although organizers recommend booking in advance to avoid queues. Buy tickets here.

Dates and time

Gates open at noon and the event ends at 7:00pm on both days. There is no re-admission.

How to get to Sandwell and Birmingham Mela

The event takes place at Victoria Park, High Street, Smethwick, B66 3NJ. Public transport by train and bus is available with the nearest station at Smethwick Rolfe Street.

Buses to the park include 80, 87, 89, 53, 55. There will be temporary road closures and no parking around Victoria Park, plus strictly limited parking in the park which will cost £8.

Prohibited items

Visitors are prohibited from bringing large bags, soft drinks or food and all guests will be searched at the gate. There is a detailed list of all prohibited items here.
