We’re celebrating the 76th Windrush with Shaping Care in Kirklees CIC

From ADF Newsdesk –

Shaping Care in Kirklees CIC recently hosted a celebration event at Gledholt Methodist Church to commemorate the 76th anniversary of Windrush. The event brought together a diverse mix of individuals to celebrate, appreciate and honor the Windrush generation and their invaluable contributions to the entire Kirklees community.

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly “The taste of Windrush‘, a culinary journey with a delicious three-course meal showcasing the rich food heritage of Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados and Grenada.

The day’s entertainment included local performances Mash It Up Band, who serenaded the audience with lively Caribbean tunes. Poems like “My Sweet Grenade” by Lesley Alexis and “Refugee” by Benjamin Zephaniah added a touch of art and reflection to the event.

The event was not only about food and entertainment, but also an occasion for reflection and gratitude. A presentation entitled “The sights, music and sounds of Windrush‘ paid homage to the Windrush generation, accompanied by a curated playlist that captured the essence of the era.

Verna Adams, one of the organizers of the event reflecting on the rich legacy of the Windrush generation expressed: “It reminds me of the importance of preserving and sharing the stories of the Windrush generation.
