Ipswich Town beat Sheffield United, Stoke, Hull City and Blackburn to sign Aston Villa’s Nigerian midfielder

allnigeriasoccer.com can confidently report that English Premier League new boys Ipswich Town are on the verge of announcing the signing of Aston Villa Nigerian midfielder Abube Onuchukwu.

Only an official confirmation of the deal is awaited as the 2005-born player has already put pen to paper on a two-year deal, keeping him at the Tractor Boys until June 30, 2026.

Onuchukwu will officially become an Ipswich Town player on July 1, 2024, one day after his contract with Aston Villa expires.

Ipswich Town have made a massive transfer swoop by bringing him to the Portman club, beating several Championship and League One clubs to the signature of the versatile central midfielder.

Apart from Ipswich Town, Sheffield United and Hull City invited him for trials, but Onuchukwu had already decided to continue his career with the Blues.

Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers, plus League One side Peterborough United, all made approaches to sign him but failed.

Although Onuchukwu predominantly played as a central midfielder while at Aston Villa, Ipswich Town plan to use him as a left back and left centre-back.

He joined Aston Villa at U13 level, rising through the youth teams to sign a scholarship deal with the Lions ahead of the start of the 2022-23 season.
