“What time is the Spurs game?” -Wrexham fans love to tweet when drawn against ‘rivals’ Sheffield United

Wrexham supporters have one more reason to look forward to the new campaign after the Carabao Cup first round draw.

The Welsh side were drawn at Sheffield United in the first round of the competition, starting the week of August 12.

Of course, the clash, while not classed as a typical derby, will take on added significance following their heated FA Cup fourth-round clash just 18 months ago.

After playing out a 3-3 draw in Wales, Wrexham shared an image which mentioned Tottenham – the team the winner were drawn to face in the fifth round – with a number of their players doing the famous camera celebration Heung-min Son.

So when the return came and the Blades won 3-1 at Bramall Lane, Billy Sharp made his feelings clear to the press.

Sharp told ITV: “I think they were disrespected with a few things before the game, thinking they had already gone through.

“I’m glad we beat them. They’re doing well in their league, we’re doing well in ours, but I wasn’t happy with a few of their players.

“I wasn’t happy with the way they were as a club before the game, watching Spurs. They didn’t even beat us.”

Sharp is said to have shouted: “Screw your documentary” as he walked down the tunnel at Bramall Lane.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney acknowledged the incident in their Welcome To Wrexham documentary, with Reynolds saying: “It was really interesting. It was 1 on 1 psychology. It was like, “oh, we own you right now.” You are a championship team and second place in the championship, you are amazing.

“This guy, I just got under his skin. It was so, so great to see that I got under that guy’s skin the way he did.”

McElhenney also seems to have enjoyed facing off against Sharp. “I was living rent-free in that bastard’s brain.”

With the Carabao Cup first round tie confirmed, Wrexham confirmed the new X before sharing the post with an eye emoji.

But looking at the comments, it’s clear that fans are looking forward to rekindling their old feud.

One fan wrote: “What time is the Spurs game once we get past these?”

Another said: “Who did we get in the second round?”

“Would have been nice to have a big club but an easy game to get into the next round,” wrote a third supporter.

A fourth fan wrote: “Now remember no celebratory photos of Sonny should be posted before hand, while another wrote: ‘Get those cameras ready guys.’

Wrexham’s Carabao Cup first round clash comes just days after they kick off their League One campaign, with Phil Parkinson’s side facing eight former Premier League sides throughout the campaign.
