ITV Coronation Street star ‘quits’ as character moves to Birmingham

A Coronation Street actress has reportedly quit the ITV series after a year-long absence. The star, who arrived in Weatherfield in 2019, mysteriously disappeared from screens last summer.

Aggie Bailey – played by Lorna Laidlaw – was said to have moved to Birmingham to care for a sick relative. Viewers were expecting it to return – especially as the rest of the Bailey family had been at the center of some of the soap’s biggest storylines.

Her husband Ed saw his gambling addiction spiral out of control, while her son Michael was wrongly arrested after being accused of working with serial killer Stephen Reid to defraud the Underworld factory. Her daughter Dee-Dee also recently got engaged to lying lawyer Joel Deering, who is responsible for the disappearance and alleged murder of Lauren Bolton.

However, The Sun has reported that the former Doctors star has said goodbye to the famous Corrie cobblestones. The publication says Lorna is set to join the cast of Channel 5 drama The Good Ship Murder, which has been renewed for two more seasons and a Christmas special to air later this year.

A source said: “Lorna is an extremely talented actress and it’s a great gig to land. The show films in beautiful Malta and the cast and crew are a tight-knit group, so it’s a really great atmosphere to work in.”

The Mirror has contacted ITV for comment. Coronation Street usually airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and is broadcast on ITVX.
