Leeds United man Jamie Shackleton agrees to move to Sheffield United

Leeds United will see Jamie Shackleton leave at the end of his contract and now Football Insider claim he has agreed to join Sheffield United.

Leeds United and Sheffield United are set to battle it out in the Championship next season, with both sure to set their sights on fighting for promotion to the Premier League.

The Whites failed to make an immediate comeback as they lost in the play-off final, while the Blades suffered immediate relegation back to the second tier after a disastrous 2023/24 campaign.

Now, it has been reported that midfielder Jamie Shackleton will switch between the two clubs.

Football Insider reports that the versatile Leeds United academy graduate has agreed to join Sheffield United when his contract at Elland Road expires. Talks have taken place over an extension but the 24-year-old is now expected to join the Blades in the coming days.

Given his age, Shackleton’s move won’t cost the Bramall Lane outfit a penny. The Whites are not owed any compensation despite his development as he is now over 23 years old.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

I’m going away from Elland Road

Shackleton has been a great asset to Leeds United over the years. He provided an energetic presence in the team when he played and his versatility saw him operate as a full-back on either side or in midfield.

However, he had injury problems with whites. That prevented him from breaking out as hoped and even if he were fully fit for next season, he would likely not have a starting spot under Farke.

As such, it appears he is ready to move on in search of a fresh start, with Chris Wilder and Sheffield United offering just that.

It keeps Shackleton at Championship level with an upwardly mobile club, so it’s a good move for him. He will be determined to continue with the Blades and find regular football having played 15 times in all competitions last season.

A welcome addition to the Blades

As is often the case with relegated sides, Sheffield United are seeing a number of players move on.

Some are leaving at the end of the deals, while others will be sold. It will be interesting to see where Wilder thinks Shackleton’s best position is, but the areas where he mainly plays could need strengthening.

George Baldock departs, leaving Jayden Bogle as the only natural right-back. In midfield, Vini Souza and Gustavo Hamer could attract interest as Oliver Norwood departs, so Shackleton offers another option there too.

The man who leaves Leeds United can become a very useful asset for Sheffield United and if he can stay injury free we could see Shackleton find new levels in red and white.
