Marseille are showing interest in Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

The Yorkshire club, who Mail Sport exclusively revealed in May had to raise up to £100m in player sales following their failure to win promotion back to the Premier League, had expected Meslier to attract interest ahead of the summer window.

Leeds would like a fee in excess of £20m for the 24-year-old Frenchman, who has made 175 appearances for the club since moving to Elland Road from FC Lorient in 2020.

The stopper made 49 appearances in all competitions for Leeds last campaign, keeping 21 clean sheets.

Meslier played a key role for Leeds during their last spell in the Premier League, impressing as a young goalkeeper capable of making important saves and playing from the back.

Sources close to the top clubs expect a fire sale at Elland Road this summer following the club’s defeat to Southampton in the Championship play-off final last month, with Wilfried Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville seen as the most likely to leave since last month .

Amid Leeds’ growing financial concerns, promotion back to the Premier League would have eased – but not entirely – the club’s need to comply with the Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

Anticipating that Meslier would attract interest, Leeds assessed potential replacements between the sticks.

Fulham goalkeeper Marek Rodak is one of the names on the list, although Leeds’ approach to the Slovakian is by no means a certainty at this stage.

The Championship side are also in talks to sell Diego Llorente to Real Betis following his season-long loan spell at Serie A club Roma.

The centre-half, who was initially tipped to stay at Roma, could join Leeds team-mate Marc Roca at Betis, with the midfielder in advanced talks to stay at the LaLiga club on a permanent deal this summer after what impressed borrower past. term.
