Steak and sushi restaurant Ikaro is closing nine months after opening

A luxury restaurant in Manchester city center has closed its doors just nine months after opening.

It seems that Ikaro, the lavish steakhouse and champagne bar that moved into the former site of the iconic Panacea nightclub, has already closed.

The space had been transformed last september in a modern 84-seat restaurant replete with black marble and dark velvet furnishings, along with massive screens outside projecting colorful digital art onto John Dalton Street.

Ikaro’s menu was split into two portions – fire and ice – and included dishes such as grilled lobster tails, Japanese A5 Wagyu steak, hand-dipped scallops and bluefin tuna otoro.

There was also a huge selection of champagne, including frequently changing selections of rare bottles available until 2:30am.

Company director Zack Issak said at the time of Ikaro’s opening: “It’s long overdue for this popular space to reopen and we’re delighted to be able to do so.

“IKaro will create an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Guests will enjoy a choice of the world’s finest champagnes paired with the finest Wagyu steaks and seafood on the market.”

But despite such lofty ambitions, Ikaro seems to have gone for good.

All of the restaurant’s social media pages are gone, it’s listed as permanently closed on Google, and emails to reserve a table now return immediately.

Ikaro was opened by the same team behind SakkuSamba and the new new Hubbiesa decadent Middle Eastern and Mediterranean restaurant in Spinningfields.

SakkuSamba closed at the end of May for “an exciting renovation and upgrade” but has yet to reopen.

Manc has approached Ikaro for comment.
