Woman fined for using fake disabled parking permit in Sydney

There was a strong sense of irony over the weekend when a Sydney police officer hit back at the police after being fined for using a fake disabled parking permit.

Police spotted a P-plate Range Rover Sport parked in a ‘clearly marked’ disabled space in Croydon Park at around 7pm on Friday.

The 28-year-old driver of the vehicle presented officers with a mobility parking permit, but upon closer inspection, police noticed the permit was a color photocopy and several numbers had been changed.

The driver said the license belonged to the owner of the vehicle, but a police check indicated the owner was not registered as disabled.

“No integrity,” the woman joked as police handed her a $572 fine and a demerit point for stopping in a handicapped parking zone.

The police confiscated the fake license.

The NSW Highway Patrol and Traffic Police Command took to Facebook on Saturday to share the incident, sparking a flurry of comments praising the driver for her audacity.

“If they had any integrity they wouldn’t dare take a seat away from a disabled person when they are able to walk,” said one person.

“It’s disrespectful and it’s entitlement to the max.”

“This person needs to look up the definition of integrity,” said another.

“The hypocrisy is astounding,” one user added.

Last month, a mobility scooter user caused controversy over his use of a disabled parking space outside a Victorian Bunnings.
