The street was left without power after the van crashed into an electricity pole

“Rains of sparks” flew across a main road after a van crashed into a pole, leaving the entire street without power. The car crashed into a three-phase power pole on Nuneaton Road last night (May 11).

It sent sparks flying across the road and live electrical wires arcing across the road. The green watch from Nuneaton Fire Station raced to the scene just before 9pm, close to the Corner House pub, and quickly put road closures in place.

They have cordoned off part of Nuneaton Road as well as the Bulkington end of Marston Lane due to sparks from power cables. National Grid arrived at the scene and engineers were forced to turn off the power.

This left dozens of homes and properties without power. Some were without power this morning (May 12).

Unconfirmed reports suggest the van driver fled the scene. Warwickshire Police were called to the incident, as was West Midlands Ambulance Service.
