Quake hits Cornwall ‘like hitting a masker in the house’

An earthquake struck Cornwall, with one local reporting that the impact was “like a sledgehammer hitting the house”.

The British Geological Survey (BGS) said a magnitude 2.7 earthquake shook the Mount’s Bay area at 12.50pm on Sunday.

He posted on X, formerly Twitter: “BGS has received reports from residents in Helston, Penzance and Camborne.

“Reports describe ‘a moderate noise’ and ‘a bang and a start, as if a mask had hit the house.’

The BGS appealed to anyone who felt the quake to complete an Earthquake Report to help seismologists understand more about the event.
