Could Manchester City promote one of their own to support Rodri?

One of the biggest priorities for Manchester City this summer is finding support for Rodri. City’s midfield general is by far the champions’ most important player. Because of this, he has a heavy workload for Pep Guardiola’s team. The champions have been linked with a host of players this summer in a bid to give Rodri the support he needs in midfield. But could the champions promote one of their own to fill the role for next season?

Young Manchester City midfielder Jacob Wright looks destined for a long career at the highest level. He has shone in City’s academy system in recent seasons. Wright made his first team debut last season during City’s FA Cup third round win over Huddersfield. The fact that he made his debut for the first team last season, despite his young age, shows how well thought of he is at the world champions.

Wright is a defensive midfielder who shines in this role. His defensive skills stand out when he plays in midfield. But the young man can also be a weapon in possession. He is an extremely good passer and has an eye for goal when the opportunity presents itself. These attributes would be an ideal addition to Pep Guardiola’s team.

The future looks bright for Jacob Wright. There is also a vacant role in the Manchester City squad for a player to back up Rodri. Given the rise of Oscar Bobb last season, the champions are not disadvantaged in promoting academic prospects into first-team roles. Wright could be the next player to follow suit.

It may prove to be the case for Manchester City to promote one of their own to support Rodri next season. If they do, Jacob Wright seems like the right player for that role.
