Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall drops a ‘never-before-told’ hint about Leicester City’s future

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has hinted that his future at Leicester City is not under his control amid the club’s bid to avoid breaching financial regulations.

The midfielder is once again the subject of transfer talks, with Brighton and Brentford sniffing around and looking to take advantage of City’s concerns over Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules. As an academy graduate, Dewsbury-Hall is City’s most profitable player and his sale would make a substantial difference to the club’s bid to balance the books, whether for this year’s accounts, which close on June 30, or for the next set, which begins. from July.

The 25-year-old previously said he had “no intention” of leaving City and has now reiterated his happiness at his boyhood club as they return to the Premier League. But, he suggested that his opinion may not count for everything.

“I’ve been here since I was a kid,” he told BBC Sport. “I love everything about the club. I grew up and managed to play in the first team. I’m happy.

“I never said I wanted to leave. That kind of stuff is not up to me. You never know with football. The season is about to start, so we’ll see.”

Regardless of what happens this summer in terms of City’s PSR compliance, they are still expected to take a points deduction in the upcoming campaign. They have been charged by the Premier League with breaching the PSR for the three-year cycle ending in 2023, and the precedent set by the cases involving Everton and Nottingham Forest is that they will be stripped of points.

“We understand it can happen,” added Dewsbury-Hall. “We are people. We see it on social media. But it’s out of our hands. We have a duty now to make sure we are in the best possible shape to go on the field, whatever happens.”
