Barnsley face Wigan Athletic in the first round of the Carabao Cup

DARRELL Clarke’s Barnsley side will travel to Wigan Athletic in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

The match will be played in midweek following Barnsley’s first league game of the season against Mansfield on August 9.

Neill Collins’ Reds were knocked out by League Two Tranmere Rovers last season.

They twice came from behind with goals from Herbie Kane and a 98th minute equalizer from Aiden Marsh, but lost on penalties.

Barnsley will find out their final group opponents for the 2024/25 Bristol Street Motors Trophy competition later this afternoon.

They are in Group F along with Huddersfield Town and Doncaster Rovers, although a fourth u21 team will join them.
