PSG are now eyeing a replacement for Manuel Ugarte as Manchester United tip towards £50m move

Manchester United have been given a boost in the race to sign Manuel Ugarte, while PSG will identify their replacement for him.

A midfielder remains paramount for Manchester United this summer and there have been recent links to one of their top options.

Despite a less than stellar first season with PSG, Manuel Ugarte is still an incredible defensive midfielder with “enormous potential” and would be a strong fit for United.

The Uruguayan has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford on several occasions in recent days and appears to be Ineos’ new priority midfielder.

Now United have been given a boost in the race to sign him as PSG identify his replacement.

PSG now want Amadou Onana, while Manchester United are leaning towards a deal for Manuel Ugarte

PSG are now being linked with potential replacements for Ugarte, which can only be a good thing for United’s chances of securing a deal.

However, according to French channel Foot Mercato journalist Sebastien Denis, PSG’s Uruguayan’s potential replacement happens to be a player on Ineos’ list as well.

It is understood that PSG are considering Amadou Onana for their Ugarte replacement. United are also still interested in the Belgian midfielder this summer, but are leaning more towards Ugarte, who could see the move suit everyone.

It adds that Onana could cost PSG between £46.5m and £50.8m, making him a straight swap as the asking price for Ugarte is £50m.

To continue the Ugarte story, ESPN Uruguay reported that the defensive midfielder will leave PSG this summer, before adding that United are closely monitoring him.

Is Ugarte better than Onana?

The bizarre thing about Ugarte and Onana being targeted by United is that they are both different in terms of the qualities they possess in midfield.

Physically Onana is a much better option than Ugarte due to his immense height and strength and also how quickly he covers ground.

However, Ugarte, in addition to that, possesses all the necessary traits of a defensive midfielder. But so is Onana, which makes it difficult to say that Ugarte is better than the Belgian.

But in terms of defensive midfielders, they are two of the best on the market, so whatever Ineos wants, we will trust their decision.
