Reason the new bank holiday declared for only part of the UK

A new public holiday has been declared, but not all parts of the UK will get the same holiday.

There are three bank holidays remaining in 2024 for England and Wales on 26 August, 25 December and 26 December. However, part of the UK will get an extra bank holiday on 15 July.

The Isle of Jersey will be visited by King Charles III and Queen Camilla. To give residents a chance to celebrate the monarch’s visit, Jersey residents will be treated to a public holiday, according to the BBC.

A reigning monarch has not visited the island since the late Queen’s visit in 2005. Despite being a British Crown dependency, Jersey is a self-governing island, so people living on the British mainland will not get the same holiday.

The holiday is expected to cost Jersey taxpayers around £700,000 in wages to cover civil servants taking leave.
