Leeds United star ‘enthusiastic’ about exit offer – holding initial talks with suitors

Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier is “enthusiastic” about a move to Marseille this summer and leaving Elland Road after five years.

So says La Provence, who says that while talks are in the early stages, he is more than interested in a potential return to France.

The newspaper explains that Marseille are looking for a replacement for Pau Lopez and want a goalkeeper who fits better with the system that Roberto de Zerbi will use.

Meslier fits the bill and has already been in contact with Marseille regarding a potential move to the club this summer.

The two sides are only gathering information at the moment and their contacts are in the very early stages, but the Leeds goalkeeper has made it clear that he is “enthusiastic” about a potential move to the south of France.

He wants to leave Leeds this summer after five years at the club following their failure to return to the Premier League this season.

One potential problem is that he has a high release clause in his current contract, but there is a belief that his exit could be negotiated for a lower price, although those details have not been disclosed at this time.

This is likely due to Leeds’ well-established financial problems and their need to raise significant funds this summer to help fill a perceived gap in their books.

It is now up to Marseille to step up and offer something for Meslier, but his clear desire to make the move could now encourage them to do so.
