West Boulevard crash victim Lucy Atkins brought “positivity, kindness and light,” her university says

A university has paid emotional tribute to an “energetic and talented” student who brought “positivity, kindness and light” after she died in a road crash in Birmingham. Lucy Atkins died with her Lakeland Terrier dog, Simba.

The 20-year-old pedestrian was killed in a collision with a car on West Boulevard in Quinton on Monday, June 24.




He had just finished his first year at Cardiff University, studying for a BA in Business Management at Cardiff Business School. Her parents – who said she “brought joy and fun to the lives of everyone she met” – said she was looking forward to sharing a house with her friends for the second year in September.

In a tribute, her university dean said she brought “positivity, kindness and light” and had “such a passion for learning”. Professor Rachel Ashworth, Dean and Head of Cardiff Business School, told BirminghamLive: “Staff and students at Cardiff Business School are devastated by the sudden loss of Lucy Atkins. Lucy was an energetic, engaged and talented student who had such a passion for learning.

“She was always surrounded by friends and her smile was constant. We are heartbroken but incredibly grateful that Lucy has chosen Cardiff and has brought so much positivity, kindness and light to our business school. Our thoughts are with Lucy’s family, her classmates and her friends at this time. most difficult times.”

In a tribute released yesterday, Lucy’s parents and brother said: ‘Lucy was a fabulous, vivacious daughter who brought joy and fun to the lives of everyone she met. She was a force of nature who lived life to the fullest. She was a former pupil at World’s End Nursery, St Peter’s School, Harborne, The Bluecoat School in Harborne and then Edgbaston High School.

“Lucy had just finished her first year at Cardiff University and was looking forward to sharing a house with her friends for her second year. The family are now asking for privacy and time to grieve.” They also thanked passers-by and the emergency services who came to Lucy’s aid following the collision.
