Firefighters called to tackle warehouse fire at Croydon nightclub – South London News

Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackled a blaze at a restaurant and nightclub in Croydon High Street last night.

Part of a warehouse behind the building was on fire. There are currently no reports of injuries.

Firefighters removed and cooled four gas cylinders to room temperature as a precaution, as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.

Station Commander Steve Howlett, who was at the scene, said: “Croydon High Street is currently closed to traffic while we work to make the site safe and we are urging people to avoid the area where possible.”

The brigade was called at 20.30 and the fire was extinguished at around 21.45. Fire crews from Croydon, Wallington, Norbury and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
