If Manchester City are chasing a world class winger who could they target?

A new report suggests Manchester City are in the market for a ‘world-class’ striker this summer. It’s no secret that the champions lack a dynamic option on the right wing other than Jeremy Doku in their squad. Who the city could target to add to their squad for the role could become a story to watch this summer.

Pete O’Rourke has reported for footballinsider247.com that the champions have failed in a late bid for Michael Olise. O’Rourke adds that Manchester City made late contact with Olise’s camp to try and tempt him to the Etihad this summer. But Olise rejected City’s advances and now looks set to move to Bayern Munich this summer. Furthermore, O’Rourke reports that City are looking for a “world-class” striker who can come in and be an immediate starter.

With O’Rourke’s report suggesting City are targeting a dynamic winger this summer, who could the world champions land this summer? Here are a few players Manchester City could be targeting this summer.

Pedro Neto

John Percy previously reported for the Telegraph that Manchester City are interested in Wolves winger Pedro Neto. Percy also says Wolves are set to demand £60million to sell the Portugal international this summer.

There is no doubting the quality of Pedro Neto. Had a fantastic 23/24 season for Gary O’Neill’s side. Although he missed much of last season due to various injury problems when fit, he added 11 assists and scored 3 goals in 24 appearances in all competitions.

With his pace and technical ability, Neto could make an impact at the world champions. While there are questions about its durability, its quality is evident. He could be a player Manchester City could target to be an immediate starter on the right wing for City should they move for Neto.

Dani Olmo

Another player heavily linked with a move to Manchester City is Dani Olmo. Wayne Veysey has reported for footballinsider247.com that City have made contact with RB Leipzig over the Spain international. But just as quickly, transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano reported on his official YouTube channel that the champions have made no move for a player they have been monitoring for some time. It remains to be seen whether City will move for Dani Olmo after all.

While Olmo isn’t a complete winger, he can play multiple positions. According to transfermarkt.com, the Spain international played on both wings and as a number 10 for RB Leipzig last season. But he was used on the right wing by the Bundesliga side when he was available for selection.

Olmo is another player who could start at Manchester City. His quality is proven and he looks ready to play for a bigger club in no time. Like Pedro Neto, there are question marks over his durability. But as a player, he has the game to make an immediate impact on the world champions. If City were to move for the Spain international, they would be getting a player who could be a starting option for Pep Guardiola.

Rodrygo

Another player who has been linked with a move to the world champions is Real Madrid’s Brazilian international Rodrygo. Spanish publication Sport have reported that Rodrygo has been ‘advised’ to move to Manchester City this summer. Furthermore, Sport add that the Brazil international is concerned about his playing time at Real Madrid following the summer signing of Kylian Mbappe.

Rodrygo is a player who could arrive at the Etihad and make an immediate impact. His quality is well known to Manchester City. He contributed 17 goals and 9 assists last season as he was instrumental in Real Madrid’s La Liga and UEFA Champions League success last season.

The thought of Rodrygo playing alongside Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne, Jeremy Doku and co is a tempting one. He is undoubtedly a player who would add something different and dynamic to the Manchester City team. But it also looks like the least likely move to go ahead this summer compared to City’s potential move for Dani Olmo or Pedro Neto.

summary

Pedro Neto, Dani Olmo and Rodrygo are three players City could target this summer. Either of them could start on the right wing for the world champions. It remains to be seen whether the champions will look for a ‘world class’ this summer. But there are options for Manchester City to consider.

But there is also the possibility that City have found their man for the right-wing role. Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this year that Brazil international Savio would land at the Etihad this summer. The young Brazilian winger showed his quality last season with Girona and in small glimpses with Brazil. It may be a case of Pep Guardiola trusting Savio to play a role for his team rather than City spending big during the transfer window.
