Brent Zbaraschuk announces candidacy for Ward 4 seat

“Economic development opportunities have to be the driver of our tax base because there are a limited number of revenue streams for our city,” he said. “I am not in favor of always going back to taxpayers for property tax increases as the only source of improvement for our city/We must live within our means.”

His second priority is to work on a crime reduction strategy that involves all levels of government, something the current council has been working on for nearly a year.

“We have to remember that this is not a police issue. This is a provincial and federal government responsibility as they control the funding of the program and have increased legislative authority to deal with these issues facing Prince Albert.”

Zbaraschuk’s third concern is making sure the city has a second fire hall built, and fourth, committing to working with other city councilors, administration and staff.

“Not every decision should result in a predictable vote,” he said.

He also thanked Cody for his time in public service and his willingness to serve others.

So far, no other candidates have announced their intention to run in Ward 4.

In Ward 6, incumbent Blake Edwards will run again, as will fellow councilor Dawn Kilmer in Ward 7. Ward 3 incumbent Tony Head is also hoping to be back in his seat in the fall.

Two names have been declared for mayor’s chair, Greg Dionne and Bill Powalinsky.
