A Birmingham man has been jailed for more than 10 years for smuggling drugs into prison

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A Birmingham man has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison after being convicted of smuggling methamphetamine and heroin into the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility.

Adam Demond Andrews, 35, was sentenced to 132 months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance in February, Alabama U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona announced in – a statement.


On March 20, 2022, the Alabama Department of Corrections received information that various individuals, including Andrews, were trespassing on Donaldson’s state property. After confronting ADOC officers, the men threw several bags of drugs on the ground and fled into nearby woods. The bags contained 60.71 grams of a mixture containing a detectable amount of heroin, cocaine, fentanyl and Delta-Nine-Tetrahydrocannabinol and 1406.1 grams of methamphetamine.

In addition, officers recovered a handgun, ammunition, an extended magazine, pocket knives, a canister of pepper spray, prescription drugs used to treat opioid use disorders, marijuana, THC gum, mobile phones, mobile phone chargers, mobile phone cables, a mobile phone. hotspot, memory cards, SIM cards, scales, lighters, cigars, cigar wrappers, shoes, jewelry and watches. Later that day, ADOC officers apprehended Andrews near the entrance to Donaldson.
