Primus come to Birmingham on August 18th

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Primus, a trio that has been making both eccentric and virtuosic music for over 30 years, is coming to the Magic City.

The band, fronted by bassist and frontman Les Claypool, will be coming to Birmingham’s Avondale Brewing Company on August 18. Special guest for the concert will be Puddles Pity Party, the “sad clown” alter ego of singer Michael Geier.

Primus first started in 1984, but didn’t really hit it big until 1991’s “Sailing the Seas of Cheese,” which featured appearances by artists like Tom Waits and Jay Lane. The album would go on to sell over 500,000 copies worldwide, achieving platinum status.

The band will also compose the theme song for the long-running Comedy Central show “South Park.”

Throughout its career, the band has embarked on several projects, including a full-length performance of Rush’s “A Farewell to Kings”, as well as collaborations with musicians such as Sean Lennon.

Tickets for the show can be found here.
