Brent Nelsen provides pre- and post-debate commentary for local news

Brent Nelsen, Department of Politics and International Affairs.

Furman’s Brent Nelsen appeared in several segments of WYFF News 4’s coverage of the June 27 presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. On the 11 p.m. show, Nelsen, the Jane Fishburne Hipp Professor of Politics and International Affairs, said the debate did little, if anything, to motivate viewers to vote. In the back-and-forth between the candidates, he said the most fundamental questions have been buried — who we are as a people and what our role is in the world. Nelsen said that while our country is facing big problems, we have two weaker candidates whose leadership capabilities are being questioned. He concluded his comments by saying the debate did not represent American democracy’s finest moment. See additional commentary in WYFF’s previous debate coverage at 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m.
