Heavy crowds at the sunny Cornwall Art Walk

Crowds turned out for the only Cornwall Art Walk scheduled for the summer of 2024.

Richard Salem from Your Arts Council (YAC) said he would not yet call the Cornwall Art Walk a community staple as the festival only started in 2018, but it has become a highlight in the Cornwall city center calendar.

Shortly after the official launch of the event on Friday afternoon, there was already considerable foot traffic on Cornwall’s Pitt Street, which was closed for the occasion and was expected to get busier by the evening, with the festivities set to finish in around 21:00.

Happening only once this year, Salem said the art walk committee is looking for new members to ensure the longevity of the popular event in the future. He thanked committee member Brett Desrosiers for his assistance with this year’s event.

More than 60 local and regional artists showcased their talents, taking the form of physical creations such as jewelry, miniature trinkets, puppets and more, as well as live entertainment such as music, aerial acts and puppetry.

“We’ve got a good line-up … everybody jumps, everybody walks over the course of the five-hour event,” Salem said.

The Cornwall Art Walk was sponsored by Desjardins as well as the downtown business improvement area. Vendors paid a fee to participate and the arts council picks up any other costs.
