Fireworks explode outside Leeds hotel ahead of huge play-off semi-final with Norwich

Norwich and Leeds meet at Carrow Road on Sunday in the first leg of the Championship play-off semi-finals.

However, any hope of a restful night’s sleep for the Leeds players was seemingly dashed thanks to fireworks being set off outside their hotel.

Videos circulating on social media claim a Norwich fan is setting off fireworks outside Sprowston Manor, where their opponents are staying the night before the game.

The game kicks off at 12pm, so Daniel Farke’s side stayed overnight to get the best possible preparation.

However, this was apparently ruined by a pyrotechnic display in the early hours.

Leeds were forced to take the play-off route after agonizingly missing out on automatic promotion at Ipswich.

They finished with 90 points, which was six points behind Ipswich in the final.

Ahead of Sunday’s game, Daniel Farke said: “I think we have a winning mentality because on special occasions and highlight games we are up to the task. We played Leicester twice and won twice, beat Ipswich twice.

“Sometimes more consistency would have been great for ‘another day at the office’ games, but when you finish with 90 points you can’t complain too much. We have two games to focus on now and I’m optimistic.”

Norwich slipped into the final play-off spot and now have to overcome Leeds, who were 14 points ahead of them, for a place at Wembley.
