Manchester is supporting military veterans this weekend and showing support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces Community.

The commemoration of Armed Forces Day 2024 will take place today (Saturday 29), between 11:00-16, in St. Peter’s Square.

Formal celebrations begin from 11.30am with a military parade and stirring performances by the Lancashire Artillery Band.

Throughout the day, the event will include live music, face painting and an Army Light Gun will be on display.

There will also be specially selected information stands, such as Archive+/Libraries and Veterans Museums, which will offer visitors a book on the history of life in the Armed Forces.

Cllr Tommy Judge, Senior Serviceman, said: “We had the D-Day commemoration recently and you listen to guys who are now in their late 90s, early centurions, and you see the pain they’re still in today. … it’s amazing, the sacrifices that men and women have made, .. I’m really amazed by them.

“It’s an opportunity for the city and the country to say thank you for our armed forces, for the work they’ve done, are doing and will do in the future.”
