The school buries a lasting monument of the school for future generations to see

Pupils at Tividale Hall Primary School in Oldbury placed a time capsule in the school grounds on Tuesday 25 June as part of the school’s 70th anniversary celebrations.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Sandwell were guests of honor at the ceremony, with the Mayor giving a speech to the school board and then watching as two pupils placed the capsule into the ground, where it was then buried.

Includes a letter to the future, images of technology, memories of school, a vlog about the loss of the Queen and examples of work.

Teacher Paul Smythe worked with the school board to organize the capsule and said the event was a great occasion.

He said: “We wanted to do some events based on the 70th anniversary and an idea from the school board was to try and capture what makes the school special and then keep it safe for future generations to to be able to see.

“The ceremony was great with beautiful weather and the school board lined up to tell the mayor what they did and how they did it and we had a hiring ceremony and a speech by the mayor in front of two students. , who were wearing white gloves to protect the capsule, lowered it into the ground.

“I think it reminded the kids now of the special place this school is, with all the positive and exciting things we have and experience.

“It also helps them think about the future and what the school might look like and for those future students, give them a glimpse into the past, like we had with a video from the 1980s, so it will be a snapshot really interesting from the past.”
