Weapons charge after ‘firearm pointed at residents and officers’ in Chelmsley Wood

A man has been charged after a gun was allegedly “pointed at officers” on a Birmingham street this week. Billy Caspar was charged with a number of offences, including possession of an air weapon with intent to cause fear of violence.

The 63-year-old is due to appear before Birmingham magistrates today, Saturday 29 June. He is also charged with three counts of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and possession of an offensive weapon.



It follows an incident in Briddsland Road, Chelmsley Wood, at around 4.45pm on Thursday afternoon. Police say he was arrested after a man “pointed an alleged air gun three times at officers and members of the public.”

He appeared to discharge the weapon into the street on the third occasion, West Midlands Police say. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

In an updated statement, the force said: “We have charged a man with firearms offenses after a suspected firearm was pointed at officers in Birmingham yesterday. At around 4.45pm yesterday afternoon (June 27), a man accosted a suspect on Briddsland Road. air gun at officers and members of the public three times.

“On the third occasion, a man appeared to discharge the air gun into the street. Fortunately, no one was injured and no damage was reported.

“Billy Caspar, 63, was charged with possession of an air weapon with intent to cause fear of violence, three counts of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and possession of an offensive weapon and will appear before Birmingham magistrates. tomorrow (June 29).”
