Coventry’s pre-season dates are as an away training camp and added game before the trip to Germany

Coventry City report for pre-season training on Monday, leaving six weeks until their first competitive game of the new 2024/25 Championship campaign, with the Sky Blues kicking off proceedings at Stoke.

Mark Robins’ men have a lot of hard work to put in on training grounds at home and abroad before then, as well as getting through a schedule of friendly games, initially to blow away the cobwebs of the summer holidays and to- and build. minutes of the match.

Monday morning (July 1)

All of City’s existing squad – bar three – and four new signings are expected to report to work to undergo a series of fitness and strength tests under the supervision of Head of Sports Science, Adam Hearn, and his staff. Haji Wright, Kasey Palmer and Joel Latibeadiere will not be there as they are currently competing in the Copa America with the USA and Jamaica, where they are nearing the end of the group stage of the competition which includes Argentina and Brazil.

All players will have individual fitness programs to follow during the summer months and most, if not all of these days, tend to sign up with professional fitness companies or personal trainers in their spare time to ensure they appear fit to hit the rolling soil. Gone are the days when players would up and start from scratch, using the pre-season to sweat off any weight gain from summer excesses.

Training camp abroad

The Sky Blues will head to a different training location for the next two weeks on what has become an annual trip to either Spain or Portugal for a guaranteed warm weather camp. The week-long stay allows players to bond, which is especially important for new signings who get a chance to really get to know their new teammates while living 24/7 in a hotel together.

There will be a lot of hard work with early morning and afternoon fitness and play sessions, with social events including the obligatory Karaoke initiation for new players.

City are expected to play their first pre-season friendly at the end of the week – a low-key, behind-closed-doors game against yet-to-be-known opposition.

Back home

Stevenage (A)

City’s first scheduled domestic warm-up game is a trip to League One Stevenage on Tuesday, July 23 (7pm) at the Lamex Stadium. It is unclear at this stage if Mark Robins will add another game before that. But if another is added, it will probably be an away game.

SV Darmstadt 98 (A)

Next up will be a flight to Germany to take on a team relegated from the Bundesliga last season. The Sky Blue Army are invited to the Merck-Stadion am Böllenfalltor, Darmstadt, on Saturday 27 July for what is expected to be an afternoon kick-off. Ticket details have yet to be announced, but up to 1,000 fans are expected to make the trip, with many already booked flights and hotel accommodation.

Everton (H)

This year sees a welcome return to pre-season fixtures at the CBS Arena, starting with a high-profile clash with Premier League opposition and an opportunity to test City’s mettle. The match takes place on Tuesday, July 30, starting at 19.45.

SV Werder Bremen (H)

And finally, the Robins’ men host four-time German champions Werder Bremen on Saturday, August 3, with the match kicking off at 3pm at the CBS Arena. The visitors finished ninth in the Bundesliga last season and just missed out on European football on goal difference, so will provide a very stern test for the Sky Blues, who should be in top form by then with just a week to go final. the season starts at Stoke City.
