Bully XL dog shot dead by police after ‘dangerously out of control’ attack on woman

An XL Bully dog ​​has been shot dead by police after it attacked and injured a woman in Salford.

Police were called to Gladstone Road in Eccles, near Liverpool Road, at around 9pm on Friday night after several reports that a dog was dangerously out of control and attacking members of the public.

GMP said specialist officers at the scene were unable to bring the dog back under control and it had to be put down “as a last resort”.

A woman was injured in the attack and is still receiving treatment for her injuries, police said. Two men were also arrested after confronting officers.

Footage shows several police cars stationed at the junction of Liverpool Road and Gladstone Road, with a number of police and armed officers stationed at the scene.

A GMP spokesman said: “At around 9pm this evening (Friday 28 June 2024) we were called to Gladstone Road in Eccles to several reports of a dangerous dog out of control which he later attacked the audience and injured a woman in the process.

“Initially, both local officers and members of the public were unable to regain control of the dog. Specialist officers were deployed and attempted to safely secure the XL Bully but were unsuccessful. This meant, unfortunately, because of the risk and damage it caused as a banned breed. it was destroyed on site as the last possible option.

“Two men were later arrested and detained after confronting officers. The female victim is still being treated for her injuries.

“We understand the concern this incident will raise within the community, but our officers have a duty to act in difficult situations on a regular basis to keep everyone safe.”

GMP said inquiries into the dog’s owner were ongoing.
