Hull City sign former Sheffield United prospect as youngster joins Scottish club for undisclosed fee

Hull City have ended up signing youngster George Dickinson following his release from Sheffield United. The midfielder has penned a one-year deal with the East Yorkshire side, with the club holding an option for a further 12 months.

The 19-year-old, who played for the Tigers’ Under-21 side during the 2023/24 season, will officially move to the MKM Stadium on July 1 following the expiry of his contract with the Blades. Head coach of the professional development phase, Conor Sellars, said: “George trained with us for around 10 days and had two games in that time. As a staff, we were very pleased with his performances in games, but also with the character he had in training.

“He will be an important part of the group heading into the new season. He showed real leadership qualities. He is very aggressive in possession and has great ability in possession. He is someone we are very excited to work with and our style of play will improve him in certain areas.”

Dickinson spoke of his joy at getting the deal “overwhelmed” and is excited about the future. “I like the way we play,” he said. “In the structure, there’s a freedom where you can go and have fun. I like to get on the ball and dictate play, show my passing range, get stuck in tackles and above all else, work hard for the team.

“Conor (Sellars) was brilliant. When I came here he was very welcoming and made sure I got into both games and sessions, I knew what I was doing and while I was gone he called me and checked on me and made me feel confident that I appreciate it and look forward to working with him.

“Personally, I want to get into the pre-season flying and be fit. I need to be able to win opportunities; I know they will not be divided. I want to be in and around the first team as much as I deserve this coming season.”

Meanwhile, the Tigers have confirmed that Oliver Green has joined the Scottish Championship side Livingston for an undisclosed fee. Green captained City’s Under-18 and U21 sides, featuring for the first team in three pre-season friendlies. He also enjoyed non-league loan spells with Bridlington Town, Marske United and York City.
