Leeds United have reportedly been chasing Ryan Sessegnon following his release from Tottenham this month.

Leeds have a lot to do this summer in terms of strengthening their squad for the start of the Championship season in August.

Promotion is the aim and Leeds will need investment in a few positions to add the depth and the right quality needed to go one better than their 23/24 playoff final defeat.

Leeds are making ‘checks’ on Tottenham free agent Ryan Sessegnon

According to HITC, Leeds are one of a number of clubs in the UK and across Europe who are keeping a close eye on Ryan Sessegnon.

The 24-year-old left-back was confirmed as being released by Tottenham this month, seeing him end his stay at the north London club following a £25million move from Fulham in 2019.

West Ham, Fulham, Rangers and others are all credited with interest alongside Leeds, who are said to have ‘checked out’ the attacking left-back following his release from Spurs.

Will Leeds be promoted next season?

Leeds would be wasting wages by signing Sessegnon

There are several reasons why Leeds should be far from any deal to sign Sessegnon this summer, even on a free.

The most obvious reason why this is a bad signing for Leeds is the extremely worrying injury record that Sessegnon has at the moment.

Unfortunately, he has been plagued by serious hamstring setbacks of late, coming in both legs as well, giving his body very little chance of returning to the blistering speed he showed when he broke through at Fulham aged 16 years.

To put things into perspective, he was injured all season in 23/24 following an operation until January when he came off the bench against Burnley in the FA Cup for a total of seven minutes before missing the rest of the campaign. with another hamstring kick.

These injury woes dwarf those of Sam Byram and Junior Firpo, and that says it all, given that Leeds fans collectively agree that these two players are too injury-prone to rely on heavily for a grueling 46 game season.

Add to that his reported wages of £55,000 a week and you have a player who would cost a significant amount for us to sign, with absolutely no guarantee that he would play much, and if he did, not almost with the explosive speed that his game thrived on as a teenager.
