Brendan Rodgers comments on ‘history made’ as he compares Leicester City to Celtic

Brendan Rodgers admits managing Celtic means “a feeling” which he suggests cannot be replicated elsewhere as he reflects on his return to Glasgow from Leicester City.

Rodgers won the Scottish treble for two years when he left the King Power Stadium midway through his third season at the club, replacing Claude Puel. He guided Leicester to fifth place and a place in the Europa League in his first full season, won the FA Cup and finished fifth in the Premier League in his second.

It got tougher from then on and he left by mutual consent in April 2023 after five defeats in six games left City in the relegation zone. There are 10 games left but Leicester are condemned to the Championship, from where they have just returned at the first attempt.

Rodgers returned to Celtic in June, signing a three-year deal to replace Spurs-bound Ange Postecoglou, and eventually led the club to the Premiership title and Scottish Cup.

“Professionally, every season of my life has been a challenge since I’ve been a coach,” he said in an interview with Celtic View. “I wasn’t a big-name player, so I never had that protection. to be so, so nothing has ever been easy for me in my coaching and professional life.

“This season has been no different. There have been other different challenges with that, but that’s where I always feel at my best, when the challenge is there and the pressure is on, then that’s something I enjoy, proving the point. So from from a professional perspective, I was really pleased that we grew as the season went on because that’s what’s important – to go in, get a group of players together and get them to work the way we want to work and then let’s see how he develops and grows as the season goes on. To finish with a double was absolutely brilliant and now everyone is going into the summer really proud of their club, and that’s what you want.
