Ben Osborn shares a very candid insight from Nottingham Forest after joining Derby County

Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Ben Osborn has now completed his move to local rivals Derby County.

The 29-year-old came through Forest’s youth team to make the first team at the City Ground but has since moved on.

Ben Osborn’s most recent spell came at Sheffield United, who he joined after leaving Forest in 2019 after years at the club.

After completing his contract at Bramall Lane, Osborn has now made the hour’s drive south to Pride Park.

After sealing his move earlier in the week, the midfielder has now had a few words to say following his spell with the Reds.

What Ben Osborn said about his time at Forest

During his time at the City Ground, Osborn managed to amass 230 appearances in which he scored 16 goals and provided 31 assists.

The 29-year-old became a regular in the Forest midfield during his Championship days before moving to the Blades.

Osborn’s hopes of becoming a Premier League footballer were done with the Blades, but he will be hoping for more consistency as Sheffield United struggled to maintain their place in the top flight.

Speaking to the media following his move to Pride Park, Osborn admitted he is still a Derby fan despite joining Forest.

“As soon as I left Sheffield United I found that Derby were interested,” he said.

β€œIt came out of the blue a little bit. I played here when I was very young, I got released and went to the other side of the A52 for a few years, but I still remained a Derby fan until I started getting closer to the Forest first team. Everything got a bit messy then!

“I’ve come full circle, it’s been emotional but I’m really excited to get going.”

Ben Osborn remained a good servant despite the Derby connection

While it will always be slightly disappointing to have a player who grew up supporting your nearest rivals, Osborn certainly made a difference for Forest.

And that showed with his last-gasp goal against the Rams in 2015, which demonstrated his ability to get on with the job at hand.

The two teams haven’t played each other in over two years and this signing shows the huge gap between the two clubs.

Osborn may have fallen short in his efforts to become a consistent player in the Premier League, but he can now be proud to play for the team he grew up supporting, but may want to forget the goal he scored against them in the past with nine years.
