Wouldn’t it be great if our sons understood how heroic it is to be a good father and devoted husband?

This is my prayer. I have campaigned for marriage for years. Strong marriages are the foundation of a strong society.

Unfortunately, family breakdown destroys lives and costs the nation an estimated £51 billion annually. Relationship breakdown is a factor in crime, domestic abuse, poor educational outcomes, child poverty and homelessness, to name a few.

There is a strong correlation between children with absent fathers and the extended boundaries of their chromosomes that signal trauma.

The Alliance of Christian Peoples will turn this around with a renewed moral vision. For too long, couples have enjoyed tax breaks and government benefits by remaining single. We are the only party that recognizes the value of marriage to society and have policies that encourage couples to marry and choose to stay married.

The CPA would give a grant of £12,000 to a first marriage, provided the couple attend 5 relationship training sessions to learn how to build a resilient relationship. Conflict resolution skills and also anger management.

Then a grant of £6,000 on the birth of their first child. We recognize that parents are under financial pressure, but as a society we value their input very much.

To fund our grants, we would raise £40bn with a 5% turnover tax on multinationals who currently avoid paying their fair share to the UK. We would remove trade tariffs for UK businesses. This would help stop shop closures and revitalize our town centres
