Leeds United ace Archie Gray set for £35m move to Premier League amid medical warning

Leeds United starlet Archie Gray is on the verge of joining Brentford in a £35m deal. The Bees fought off strong competition from a host of Premier League clubs to land the 18-year-old.

After it was reported that the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United were all vying for his signature this summer, the sudden rush of the Bees, who were only reported to be interested in Gray today, caught many off guard while agreeing to personal terms with Gray.

After the youngster’s impressive 2023/24 campaign, in which he played 50 times under manager Daniel Farke and secured the club’s Young Player of the Season award, as well as the EFL Young Player of the Season and Apprentice of the Season awards, he was expect Leeds to struggle to hang on to the star.

Earlier in the season, Gray spoke about how his debut senior season with the Whites had gone and highlighted Farke’s impact on his development so far. He said: “I’m lucky with the season and the team I’ve come in because the experience I’m getting now is second to none. It’s my first time playing professional football and I’ve been lucky with the manager (Daniel Farke) believing in me and in all the games I’ve had, I’m very grateful.

“I’m lucky to have the team-mates I have, the manager and his coaching staff and the people around me. I’ve enjoyed every moment of playing for Leeds, I’m still a kid and I love every experience I love being around the team and enjoy every moment.

“Since I was little watching my dad (Andy) play and hearing my uncle play and my grandfather Frank, I always had to step up. My dad has been very good to me for advice but I’ve been very lucky that everything has come together for me since I was 15, things have come so fast but I just have to be grateful for what I have and keep going i’m getting better

However, it has now emerged that Gray is set to undergo a medical with the Bees, who have reportedly agreed personal terms with the player. Brentford are believed to have maneuvered themselves into the strongest position to complete the deal.

Interest in Gray remains from elsewhere, but if all goes to plan from the player’s side, the Bees can be expected to reach an agreement with Leeds for a fee of around £35m. Despite Gray being under contract until 2028, it is expected that due to their financial situation, Leeds will offload at least one of their top assets for sale to help balance the books.

While it was thought to be one of Crysencio Summerville or Wilfried Gnonto, it appears that it is Gray who will be leaving Elland Road this summer, even after signing a three-year extension to his current contract in January earlier this year.
