XL thug shot dead after attacking and injuring woman in Manchester

An XL bully dog has been shot dead by police after attacking members of the public and injuring a woman in Manchester.

Officers were called to a residential road in Eccles after receiving reports of a “dangerously out of control” dog, according to a statement from Greater Manchester Police.

A video of the incident shows officers shooting the dog as it runs down the road.

A man can be heard pleading with the officers not to kill his dog.

Officers and members of the public were “unable to regain control of the dog”, the force said, adding that destroying the dog was “a last possible option”.

“We understand the concern this will raise within the community, but our officers have a duty to act in difficult situations on a regular basis in order to keep everyone safe,” the statement said.

Two men were later arrested and detained after confronting the officers.

The female victim is still being treated for her injuries.

Earlier this month, 23-year-old Nicole Morey was beaten to death in Ireland by a Bully XL.

She previously posted videos that appeared to show her as the owner of several XL thugs.

One of her dog videos is captioned: “But if one of us dies – I hope I die first.”

The video ends with a caption: “Love my family.”

In February, owning the bully XL in England and Wales became an offense without an exemption certificate.

Anyone who owns one of the dogs must have the animal neutered, microchipped and keep it muzzled and on a lead in public, among other restrictions.

The government moved to ban XL bullies following a series of attacks on people and other dogs.
