Family-run brewery says ‘see you at the bar’ as it is saved from closure

A family-run Merseyside brewery has been saved from closure.

Top Rope Brewing, based on Lipton Close in Bootle’s Brasenose Road Industrial Estate, announced last month that it would cease trading at the end of June. The brewery, known for its unconventional beers with wrestling-themed names, was established in 2016 when Ben Jackson set up the operation in his mum and dad’s Childwall home.

The closure was met with an outpouring of sadness from the Merseyside beer community and beer drinkers. However, Top Rope has now partnered with a firm called Legends Whisky, meaning it can continue to trade.

Yesterday (June 28), a statement on X (formerly Twitter) said: “Ben will continue to brew Top Rope beers at the existing brewery in Bootle to continue to supply our existing customers while exploring exciting new opportunities possible through this partnership.

“We’re thrilled to announce this news, closing the brewery was one of the hardest choices we’ve ever had to make and seeing the massive outpouring of support from fans and customers makes us feel so happy to be able to continue to produce beer, which has had such a positive impact on so many people.

“We hope to see some of you tomorrow for what was supposed to be our last bar, although it may be our last for a little while, as we figure a few things out, the toilets will definitely be back!
