Wiltshire Police arrest man in connection with Devizes stabbing

Wiltshire Police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing in Devizes.

Officers first received reports of an incident which took place at 12.30pm. on Saturday (June 29) on Estcourt Street in the city.

When responders arrived in the area, they found a 20-year-old man suffering from serious stab wounds.

The victim was taken by air ambulance to Southmead Local Hospital, where doctors described his condition as “stable”.

Following this, a man – also in his 20s – was arrested by police on suspicion of attempted murder, as well as possession of a bladed article and assault on an emergency worker.

The force said the suspect was taken to Melksham Police Station and remanded in custody as he is questioned.

Speaking about the case, Detective Inspector Gareth Kitchener said: “While inquiries are ongoing to establish the exact location of this incident, we do know that both the suspect and the victim were seen running from the location near the Kwik-Fit and down the street Sidmouth immediately. after.

“We have received several calls from members of the public in relation to the incident and would urge any other witnesses who have not already contacted the police to get in touch immediately.”

Kitchener added that the force believed there was little additional risk to the public at this time and urged that investigations were ongoing, before thanking the local community for their help so far.
