Leicester City approached by Chelsea for 25-year-old midfielder – Report

Chelsea have registered their interest in Leicester City midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

Chelsea have reportedly expressed an interest in signing Leicester City midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall this summer.

The Blues are ramping up their transfer plans as new manager Enzo Maresca looks to stamp his authority on the team, arriving as Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement after guiding Leicester City to promotion to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was one of the standout performers in Leicester City’s Championship-winning campaign last season. The central midfielder made 49 appearances under Enzo Maresca at the King Power Stadium, scoring 12 goals and assisting a further 15 in a highly successful season.

According to a report from The Athletic, Chelsea have contacted Leicester City over a possible swoop for Dewsbury-Hall. Maresca appears to be interested in reuniting with the 25-year-old at Stamford Bridge, with the England youth international perfectly suited to the style of football the Italian tactician wants to employ in 2024/25.

Dewsbury-Hall’s current terms at Leicester run until 2027 (Transfermarkt), meaning he is not expected to be available for a modest fee. The said report claims that the midfielder is only interested in a move to Maresca’s Chelsea should he decide to leave the King Power Stadium this summer.

It’s no surprise to see Maresca return to his former club Leicester and try to bring in some players from the 2023/24 title-winning season. Dewsbury-Hall has been one of the Foxes’ stars and is well deserving of the recognition he has received, with Brighton and Hove Albion previously showing interest in him.

Dewsbury-Hall to move to Chelsea

Aged 25, the England midfielder is heading towards the prime of his career and one would imagine he is ready to play for one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs. He has played in the Premier League before and that experience could help him settle in quickly at Chelsea if a move materialises.

With his passing ability, work rate and dynamism, Dewsbury-Hall could complement Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez in the engine room. He would also add quality depth to the West London club’s midfield ranks, which looked depleted last season following injuries to Romeo Lavia, Carney Chukwuemeka and Lesley Ugochukwu.

That said, Chelsea must quickly step up their interest in Dewsbury-Hall and agree a deal with Leicester.
