West Mercia Police have said they are “concerned” for the welfare of an escaped prisoner from Birmingham who was seen leaving Birmingham earlier this month.

Officers have been searching for Wayne Matthews after he was spotted in Birmingham earlier this month on June 18.

New images have been released by the force showing Matthews, who is 51, appearing to leave Digbeth bus station in Birmingham at 3.22pm

A second picture of the man was captured on CCTV where he was seen wearing a jacket – however this is the last clear image the force has of him.

A second CCTV image of him was captured at 6.02pm at Halesowen bus station heading towards Hagley Road in the south west of the town.

In an appeal, the force said Matthews was already facing a recall to prison for his actions, but said they were increasingly “concerned for his welfare”.

Anyone living in the Clent and Hagley areas of the conurbation should get in touch as soon as possible if they have seen him or report any potential previous sightings as inquiries into his whereabouts continue.

In addition to this, Matthews has several links with Birmingham, but also with Worcester and Southend-on-Sea.

It is currently not known whether the escaped prisoner has returned to Worcestershire or gone elsewhere.

According to the force, he was last seen wearing a gray t-shirt, blue jeans, gray Converse sneakers and wearing two black overalls.

If anyone sees the man, they are urged to call 999 immediately to report a sighting.
